Great article about the team and their successful season Once in a while a magical thing happens to a basketball team, they go on an amazing win streak and no matter how hard the opponent tries to stop them, they always come out on top. The Oviedo Club Baloncesto team has had one of those seasons...unbelievable, unstoppable and full of memories. This is the team's first season in the LEB Gold and so far they have proven to be a force to be reckoned with. Since last season, they have been undefeated at the magical home gym of Pumarín. Fans have been showing up in record numbers and the team keeps pulling off magical, mostly last quarter nail-biting, heart-stopping, wins. The season keeps progressing and quite frankly I can't wait to see what else is in store! We have been so fortunate to be a part of this great organization with great management, coaches and most of all unbelievable teammates. So please sit back and enjoy a couple of photos from OCB's Saturday night victory over Palencia at the one and only, magical, Pumarín!
I am so incredibly proud of my husband - game and league MVP with 22 points and 5 rebounds!!! Check out the translated article HERE.
Wanna know a little more about Dan?! Well check out this awesome QA session with hubby. It always cracks me when Dan gets quoted in articles because so much of it is totally lost in translation. Check out this awesome English version of the above article.... My favorite line by far: USAS EVER BASKETBALL EXCUSE FOR BINDING No, it is not possible, I'm married.
Haha Classy! Enjoy! Check out an article about Dan's team and how they are the masters of the three point shot! Very cool. Need a translation, click HERE.
Who knew being married to a European would finally pay off?! Well, we always hoped it would and now it's finally official. Dan is officially regarded as a "bosman" in Spain! A bosman is basically any player that is married to a European or has dual citizenship. So thank you, mom and dad for giving birth to me in Poland. And yes, raising me there! I am beyond thrilled that my Polish citizenship has finally come in handy! Going about obtaining proper proof has proved to be a little challenging. Since we don't have one home base (we travel between Chicago, Milwaukee & Minneapolis in the summer time) getting all of our official paperwork reguired us to drive 719 miles. That's right! Good ole 719 miles! We basically needed to have our marriage license apostilled (or apostille, I still can't pronounce that word or know how to use it properly... it's not only because I am foreign! Well maybe it is.) We basically needed to prove that we are still married. Apparently Spain needs more proof than a FB status!
So our adventure took us from Minneapolis to Chicago to pick up our official marriage certificate from my parents house. Then back to Madison to get the documents signed off on. I should explain this further....you can't just got to ANY courthouse to get your documents apostille or authenticated. You are required to go to the State where you got married. Thankfully we got married in Wisconsin and not Hawaii! And not all court houses do these types of authentications. Soooo instead of driving across the Wisconsin border to Milwaukee, we had the pleasure of driving to Madison. The good part was that we were able to hang out on State Street till our documents got apostilled! So cheers to being a bosman and showing Spain we are still married! ;) There are many hard parts of this lifestyle, and maybe the hardest one for me, other than being away from family and friends for an extended amount of time, is making friends for just a season. Yup, for a season. You become so close to the people you meet abroad, some take you in as if they were your own family, others hang out with you at games constantly give you encouragement and advice. There are also the special ones that you can laugh and cry with, and lean on them when times get tough. You vent about coaches, management, teammates and cultural differences. And when the season is over, you never see them again. To this day, I clearly remember standing at the airport in Sendai with tears in my eyes knowing that those moments will never come back. With a quick trip to the airport, your abroad family dissapears and the only thing that remains are memories and pictures. Sometimes if luck is on your side you re-sign with the same team or in the same country, but most of the time the wind carries us in different directions....spreading us all over the world. And the cycle continues...meeting new teammates, friends and family for a season. We have been so fortunate to meet some absolutely great people on our journey. They have changed our lives, showed us how to keep calm in an ever changing sport culture, and most of all, made us appreciate every.single.moment. Because we all know this lifestyle is not forever...everything changes, people, teams, countries, and friends. In this whirlwind of a lifestyle it's important to realize that change is constant, and to embrace it. So let's laugh, vent, travel and be thankful basketball brought as all together...even if it's only for a season. So this is to all of you that made our last five seasons memorable!
